My Father is Irish and is Catholic.
My Mother is British and is Protestant.
I was born in America, yet I carry a British Passport and live in England.
In America, some people remember when they were privileged to hear the speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Ten years ago, I wept for happiness when The Good Friday Agreement was reached.
This weekend I wept with sadness when two British Soldiers and one Northern Ireland Police Officer were assassinated.
The Troubles have returned.
I do not know if the media in America have been covering it, but I wanted to bring it to the attention of the Daily Kos community.
Here is what happened;
Two soldiers killed in a brutal attack on Army barracks in Ulster yesterday were shot dead at close range as they lay injured on the ground, police said today.
Four others were injured in the attack at the Massereene Barracks, outside Antrim, which has been blamed on dissident republicans.
Here is the new fear;
Security forces on both sides of the Irish border are hunting for a dissident republican bomb, after receiving intelligence reports that the Real IRA has smuggled a large device into Northern Ireland from the south, the Guardian has learned.
Both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have experienced great prosperity the last ten years.
But without peace, there can be no prosperity.
